In the afternoon of Thursday January 07, 2021, in front of the Parliament in Congress at Kigobe, in Bujumbura city, the President of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Ambassador Pierre-Claver NDAYICARIYE presented, to the deputies and senators, the report of activities of the Commission for the year 2020.

The congress was led by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Right Honorable Gélase-Daniel NDABIRABE in collaboration with the Senate Speaker, Right Honorable Emmanuel SINZOHAGERA.

During those activities, the President of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission recommended parliamentarians to contribute to discovering the real causes of the cycles of violence that Burundi experienced, to sensitize the population to collaborate with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and to mobilize funds from the Government to support the achievements of that commission.

To the Government of Burundi, Ambassador NDAYICARIYE proposed to initiate a law to clear victims of charges, to organize a national mourning for all those who were killed during those massacres and to ask forgiveness from the victims who were brutally massacred by the State organs, etc.

On his part, the Senate Speaker recalled that the massacres of the year 1972 had serious consequences for the country and wished that more clarification could be established in order to know the truth to avoid continuing to cover up the lie.
